Preparing and Improving the Future Educators of America

On May 23rd, 2012 the U. S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, met with the Executive Directors and Presidents of the following National Educational Organizations:

Council of Chief State School Officers

American Federation of Teachers

National Education Association

National School Boards Association

Council of the Great City Schools

Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service

American Association of School Administrators

These educational leaders met for the annual Labor Management Conference held in Cincinnati ,Ohio.  It is during this Conference that they drafted an outline of what their vision of future educators should look like making teaching “our nation’s most valued and respected professions.”  There are seven core elements outlined in this outline:

1. A culture of shared responsibility and leadership

2. Top Talent, Prepared for Success

3. Continuous Growth and Professional Development

4. Effective Teachers and Principals

5. A Professional Career Continuum with Competitive Compensation

6. Conditions for Successful Teaching and Learning

7. Engaged Communities
